The Abode Hotels ACT Meteors squad who will play the side’s only Women’s National Cricket League (WNCL) home ground match this Sunday has been released. After a mixed result in their first carnival weekend of the WNCL, the side have amped up their training efforts in their bid for two wins under lights.
Captain of the Meteors Kris Britt is confident the side will perform well throughout the weekend.
“This will be a massive weekend for our team. Two wins will set us up to be at the top of the ladder, and so we’re going to strive to light up the night with both the bat and ball,” said Britt.
“I expect big things from our bowlers Maitlan Brown and the spin twins [Erin Osborne and Sam Bates], and Katie Mack with the bat.”
New recruit to the team, Maitlan Brown also spoke of the importance of a win at home.
“A win on Friday would be huge. Hopefully if we get a win in Tasmania, it will give us a lot of confidence going into Sunday’s home ground game at Manuka,” said Brown.
“It’s my first time playing at Manuka and I’m so excited. It’s extra special for me because I get to play alongside my childhood hero and friend, Ange Reakes.”
The team will fly down to Tasmania tomorrow for their first match against Tasmania, before heading back to Canberra to play defending champions South Australia under lights at Manuka Oval on Sunday.
