Cricket ACT Pathway Manager and U/19 ACT/NSW Country Head Coach Luke Butterworth will depart to assume the role of West End Redbacks assistant coach. Butterworth, a former Tasmanian all-rounder and three time Sheffield Shield Champion will depart Cricket ACT post a successful coaching stint in the Nation’s Capital covering squads from U12’s through to U19’s, Futures League and WNCL.
General Manager – High Performance Aiden Blizzard said Cricket ACT had experienced mixed emotions in hearing of Butterworths appointment, however believes it recognizes the direction of the organisation and its ability to develop talent, “We were are extremely happy to hear of Luke’s appointment as South Australian assistant coach. As an organisation we are aspiring to be the number 1 talent hotspot in Australian Cricket for athletes and staff, Luke’s appointment is an indication that we are being recognised for developing not only athletes but coaches and administrators within our organisation.”
"I'm very excited for the new role and I think that I can bring in some good experience from my playing days and my recent coaching to the SACA," Butterworth said. "I've had 13 years in the first-class system and I've found the transition from player to coach relatively easy with a lot of good people around me.”
Cricket ACT CEO Cameron French said “We are delighted that Cricket ACT have been able to provide Luke with an opportunity to transition from playing into coaching. Whilst only with us for a short period it is already apparent that Luke will have a long and successful coaching career and we wish him the best of luck as he joins the SACA."
