A wet Friday impacted games across the weekend of ACT Premier Cricket, though blue skies and sunshine on Saturday allowed more cricket to be played than might have been expected.
That’s not to say it was all smooth sailing once games did get on, however, with the Duckworth Lewis Stern calculation sheets getting a workout as showers returned in pockets around the Territory later in the day.
North Canberra-Gungahlin registered their first points of the 1st Grade one-day competition, recording an eight-wicket DLS win over Ginninderra at Kippax.
After Eagles skipper Nick Wood took 4-58 on the way to restricting the Tigers to 8/231 from their 50 overs, Norths launched into the run chase to ensure they stayed ahead of the par score.
1/21 wasn’t the best start, and 2/71 only marginally better, but it was all Michael Spaseski (106*) and Jarrod Colliss (49*) from there, as the pair added an unbeaten third wicket partnership of 125 to get Norths to 2/195 from played was halted in the 30th over.
The DLS calculations worked in their favour when no further play was possible.
It was a similar story at ANU North, with another impressive bowling effort from the Students holding Eastlake to 8/203 from their 50 overs.
In reply, freshly-named PM’s XI representative Eric Bell fell at 2/53 as ANU kept one eye on the sky and the other on the par score.
In the end, it was a very handy 62* from ANU Captain Dan Leerdam that got his side home, getting the Students to 3/167 and ahead of the par score when the rain arrived in the 31st over, and with the ACT’s other PM’s rep Lachie Simpson unbeaten at the other end.
A late start at Stirling didn’t deter Weston Creek-Molonglo from batting first, with an even 50 from Josh Myburgh and several other starts getting the home side to 8/235 from their full 50 overs.
Queanbeyan lost wickets early and often in reply, though, with Djali Bloomfield knocking over the Bluebags top order and Sam Myburgh finishing with 5-26 from six overs as Queanbeyan were bowled out for 133 in 28 overs.
And there was no result in the match between Tuggeranong and Western Districts at Chisholm.
Wests reached 8/173 from their reduced compliment of 42 overs, but Tuggeranong’s innings only got as far as 10.5 overs and with their score on 3/31 when returning rain had the final say on the day’s play.
In Women’s Elite Competition action on Sunday, the North side got home by eight wickets at Kippax.
Sent in to bat first, ACT Meteors pair Carly Leeson and Alisha Bates got starts for the South side, but regular wickets became the story of their innings.

Meteors opener Kayla Burton fell early for North, before ACT teammates Grace Lyons (44) and Annie Wikman (54*) added 75 for the second wicket before Lyons fell.
North getting home comfortably in the 30th over, reaching 2/127.
The next North-South game on December 10 is already well-anticipated, with most of the ACT Meteors squad expected to take part, ahead of their WNCL resumption against Queensland the following week.
