Mets return home to take on WA

After a disappointing two games in Tasmania, the ACT Meteors have embraced the quick turnaround as they prepare to run out on to EPC Solar Park to face Western Australia tomorrow morning.

Meteors captain, Katie Mack, spoke to media this morning about the upcoming two games.

“It was a bit of a disappointing round against Tassie. They have won the last couple years so we always expected them to come out pretty strong. It’s exciting because we get to play so soon against WA at home so it's kind of nice to back up quickly and get on the park rather than spend a couple weeks training and then stewing over it; so, it's a really good chance to come back.” Katie Mack quoted.

With finals cricket out of reach for both the ACT Meteors and Western Australia in this season of the WNCL, Katie Mack and her girls are looking forward to making the most of this and just playing cricket with nothing to lose.

“I think you'll find that we will probably both come out pretty tough and you know probably change things up a little bit too how we've been playing. Probably a big focus is how can we finish strong and take that into next season.”

Last time the Meteors played at home, they produced an incredible two wins against a strong Victorian outfit and are hopeful that another two games with the home advantage will bring them more success.

“This is our home game. We have played a lot of games here and we know best how to play here. So, making sure that we will enjoy being at home in front of our friends and family, and then making sure that we take that and turn it to an advantage and know that we are going to be the best equipped to play here and using that as a big strength this weekend” Katie told Cricket ACT.

“Everyone's looking really good, and I think if anything, the Tasmanian losses are a big motivation. Everyone’s keen to get back out there and sort of prove themselves again.” Katie stated.

With young guns Amy Hunter and Grace Lyons both returning to the squad after an awesome stint in Malaysia playing for Australia in the Under 19s World Cup, Katie Mack is excited to have her younger girls back in these last few games of the season.

“They're coming back into the team with a bit more knowledge and experience, but I think the coolest thing about the younger girls is just seeing them grow and take more responsibilities in our meetings and everything. They’re not just growing I guess in their skill form but their knowledge of the game and becoming a lot smarter with what to do in different situations in every game.”

It’s been an interesting and exciting year for Katie Mack and the Meteors but there are some individual aspects that Kate is looking to focus on with the remaining games left this season.

“Each game I'm learning a little bit more as captain, so making sure that I'm still learning and I guess as well prepared as I can be to help the girls out on the field but other than that, personally it's just to score more runs. I've probably done OK this season, but I sort of struggled to get past that 50-60 runs, so I'd really love to put on some big runs in the final rounds for the ACT.”

Be sure to get down to EPC Solar Park to cheer on our ACT Meteors as they take on WA tomorrow (Friday the 7th) and Sunday (9th)!!
