Lynne O'Meara Cup Grand Final: Ginninderra and Western District Set for Title Clash

The ACT Women's Grade 40-Over Grand Final is set for an exciting showdown this Saturday, March 23, at Reid Park. The match will see Ginninderra Cricket Club take on Western District Cricket Club in a battle for the prestigious Lynne O'Meara Cup.

The Lynne O'Meara Cup, named after the former ACT representative wicketkeeper-batter, recognises excellence in women's one-day cricket. Both teams have delivered impressive performances throughout the season and will be determined to secure victory in this highly anticipated final.

Ginninderra has been a consistent force all season, earning their place in the final through a string of dominant displays. With a well-rounded squad featuring both seasoned players and rising stars, making them a formidable opponent.

Ginninderra captain Lucy McKelvie highlighted the impressive performances of her young players, particularly praising rising star Tash Galeano.

"We've had some really good bowling spells by some of our girls. Tash Galeano has come out, and she’s quite young, but she batted when we needed her to and bowled really well. All of our young players have come through the ranks and have shown some really impressive stuff."

Meanwhile, Western Districts are eager to avenge their previous year's loss in the final. Their journey back to this decisive match showcases their determination to claim the title.

Western Districts bowler Chloe McGann emphasized the significance of winning the title for Western District.

"Over the past few weeks we've really clicked and we've just really worked hard. It would be amazing to lift the trophy—we’ve obviously had a few struggles over the past years, but we’re really keen to get the trophy and win this year."

McGann also spoke about the strong bond her team has built in the lead-up to the final.

"We’re very keen, we’ve really bonded as a team over the last few weeks, and we are really excited to play in this final and play against this good group of girls as well."

With both sides poised for a gripping contest, fans are encouraged to head to Reid Park and witness some of the best women’s cricket the ACT has to offer.
