Rain brings feathered variety of ducks to start 2024 Premier Cricket

A late downpour around the region on Saturday afternoon put a literal dampener on the return of grade cricket for the New Year, with the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern calculation sheets featuring at plenty of grounds and in plenty of grades. 

Here’s how the grades played out on the weekend, and where the respective tables sit as we move from white-ball cricket back into two-day cricket this weekend. 

1st Grade:  

All four games abandoned with No Result. 

John Gallop Cup one-day table: Weston Creek-Molonglo 22, Tuggeranong 20, Queanbeyan 19, ANU 18; Western Districts 18, North Canberra-Gungahlin 11, Eastlake 10, Ginninderra 9. 

2nd Grade:  

DLS victories recorded by Queanbeyan over Ginninderra at Kippax, and Weston Creek-Molonglo over ANU at ANU North, with the other two games abandoned with No Result. 

One-day table: WCMCC 31, QDCC 23, ANUCC 18, WDCC 16; GCC 14, TVCC 12, ECC 10, NCGCC 4. 

3rd Grade:  

All four games abandoned with No Result. 

One-day table: QDCC 24, WCMCC 22, WDCC 21, ECC 18; GCC 14, ANUCC 12, TVCC 8, NCGCC 4. 

4th Grade:  

All four games abandoned with No Result. 

One-day table: QDCC 29, ANUCC 22, WDCC 17, GCC 14; WCMCC 11, TVCC 10, ECC 10, NCGCC 8. 

Women’s Grade Competition:  

In Twenty20 action, Ginninderra beat Tuggeranong by 69 runs at Kippax in the only completed game for the weekend. 

Queanbeyan beat Eastlake via DLS at Forestry Oval in Yarralumla, while Wests also claimed a DLS win over ANU at Aranda. 

Glenda Hall Shield Women’s Twenty20 table: Ginninderra 8, Eastlake 7, Wests 7, Queanbeyan 6, ANU 5, Weston Creek-Molonglo 4, Tuggeranong 3.
