Cricket ACT caught up with Meteors star all-rounder Annie Wickman to preview this weekend’s clash with Victoria.

The Meteors have just come off the back of two losses against Queensland Fire in the last round of the WNCL before Christmas. However, the girls are confident that the Christmas break has set them up for success against Victoria.

“It was good for us all to get a break and get back to our families and have a good Christmas. But coming back, I think there's been a big shift in focus and training the way we want to play. We definitely haven't put a performance out that we are capable of, so just training with that high intensity and bringing that into every single session is really important for us coming through the next couple games.” Wikman told Cricket ACT.

“I don't think we have had a start where we've shown exactly what we are capable of. It's important for us to just put out that performance that we know we all can achieve. Victoria having had a bit of success recently isn't our focus whatsoever. It's about how we want to play and how we want to perform and just putting out that performance that we know we are all capable of” she added.

“We are just as strong as them and another team in this competition. So, it's about all of us believing that and putting that performance out.”

The girls are super excited for their first match of the new year and are even more excited to run out onto the field at home, EPC Solar Park.

“Playing at home is always great. I think it's always great to play in front of friends and family just to show everyone how much hard work actually goes into this and training every day. Friends and family always make it more fun at the end of the day when you can see them afterwards and talk to them afterwards it's always good put things in perspective sometimes.”

“It's going to be good to celebrate a few good wins.” Annie Wikman stated confidently.

Come down to cheer on the girls as they take on the Victoria Women team!

Play will begin at 10am AEST on Sunday 12th, and Tuesday 14th of January.
