ACT Meteors girls last shot at Under 19s glory
On Friday, the ACT Meteors farewelled Amy Hunter and Grace Lyons as they set off to Malaysia to represent Australia in the U19s Cricket World Cup, and this will be their last time being able to be selected in an Under 19s representative team.
“It's pretty cool. It is something that we have obviously thought about for years and we felt like we were working up to, at least I have felt like I'm working the last few years, so it's pretty cool to have that come true” Hunter told Cricket ACT.
Named alongside Australia’s most promising upcoming talents in women’s cricket, the two girls have got a huge future of cricket ahead of them.
“Everyone I think gels so well together and we're all competitive and all there for the same reason.” Hunter stated.
Although this is an exciting opportunity, what the girls are most excited for is to finally be able to play and share this experience together on the field.
“Amy and I actually haven’t had the chance to play together. On the Sri Lanka tour Amy got injured and then up in Brisbane I got injured, so I think finally being able to go away and play together that would be really cool.” Lyons said.
With such an incredible history of experience at such a young age, both Amy and Grace expressed their future ambitions to play for Australia’s national women’s team one day. But until then, they are most excited to succeed in the WNCL over the next few years for the ACT Meteors.
“For me personally, I think just really succeeding in WNCL in the next few years I think, definitely like anyone I want to be playing for Australia by the end of it.” Hunter expressed.
“The overall goal is obviously playing for Australia but getting success here individually and as a team I think is really something that means a lot to me.” Lyons added.
Being some of the youngest representatives in the game, these young women are the future of our much-loved women’s game that Cricket ACT is proud to call their very own. With such capability and talent under their belt they have taken away so much.
“I've learned at the end of the day, if it is something that you want, you'll get it.” Hunter told Cricket ACT.
“Just be yourself. Be yourself in all aspects on the field, off the field but if you're just true to yourself, I think people respect you for that.” Lyons expressed.
Be sure to keep an eye on ACT Meteors Amy Hunter and Grace Lyons as they represent Australia in the U19s World Cup. Their first game will be Saturday the 18th of January 2025!
